I grew up in a Charismatic household where the doctrines of grace took a back seat to the health, wealth and prosperity gospel. My Mom and Step Dad made us go to Sunday school till I was about 13 and then out of the blue gave us the choice to stay or go….. sooo I rolled over and went back to sleep. Needless to say I did not set foot in another church again outside of weddings or funerals.
I had still received enough of the Gospel to understand my sin and the need for a Saviour, and this kept me up many nights worrying about what I would do if this whole ‘Jesus thing was legit’. God was preparing me. This was a pattern for the next 10 years or so where my sin reigned supreme.
After getting married to Paula she got saved. She started praying for me and challenging me with the gospel message, to which I responded with mocking, scoffing and fighting. She never once retaliated but sat quietly and let me rant (1 Peter 3:1-2). She invited me to her baptism and feeling obligated I agreed to go. Little did I know that this was part of God’s plan for me (John 6:44).
Paula was baptized by Fred, my current employer, who was on me like white on rice as soon as I walked in the door. He shared the Gospel with me, answering all my complaints and objections and I was left knowing I had sinned against a Holy God and realised that no amount of effort on my part could clear my debt (Romans3:23; Ephesians 2:8-9). I was unsettled.
I started attending church and a bible study over the next while and in May 2001 I called to God to save me and HE DID (Romans 10:9-13). Sin no longer ruled, I now had a new heart, a new spirit and a new nature (Ezekiel 36:26). God used the Godly example and challenge of my wife, as well as a crazy Christian who witnessed to me to draw me to Himself (Romans 10: 13-14). Jesus was faithful to save me from my sin by his death on the cross (2Corinthians 5:21). My God is mighty to save!
Since then it has been a journey that has brought Paula and I into a deeper relationship with him and he has planted us in a community of believers at FBC. Where we have found our spiritual home and where we are able to get involved in various ministries. We have loved the growing Life Group culture where we study Gods word, hold one another accountable and just generally love one another.
After fifteen years I am still married to the best wife in the world, have four children Jordan (14), Luiz (12), Savannah (10) and Jeremiah (8).
MY PASSION FOR FBC
Is for Family, Church and Community Living, where the Gospel can be played out in a real way on a daily basis showing the word our love one for another.
